January Newsletter - What a start to 2025!

Exeter and Exmouth TAGB Tae Kwon Do

Wow—what a start to 2025! Our club is back in full swing, with members diving straight into training, eager to prepare for the exciting events ahead. Our diaries have been busy from the get-go, and it's fantastic to see everyone putting in the hard work.

South-West Championships

A huge well done to all 30 members who attended the South-West Championships earlier this month, celebrating 50 years of Tae Kwon-Do in the region. It was a momentous occasion and an honour to be part of such a special event. From outstanding performances on the mats to incredible team spirit, the  competition showcased the dedication and passion within our club. We are extremely proud to have finished as the top club in the South-West and third overall—a truly outstanding achievement!

Congratulations to our medal winners:

  • Luna – Gold in Sparring
  • Neil – Bronze in Patterns
  • Ela – Bronze in Patterns & Bronze in Sparring
  • Alara – Silver in Patterns & Silver in Sparring
  • Amelia – Silver in Sparring
  • Laila – Gold in Sparring & Silver in Patterns
  • Ryan – Gold in Patterns
  • Ethan – Bronze in Patterns, Silver in Sparring & Silver in Tag-Team Sparring
  • Cassie – Gold in Sparring

Beyond the medals, we are incredibly proud of every student who attended—whether you competed, refereed, or came along to support. The energy, sportsmanship, and team spirit on display were second to none.

Upcoming Events

Colour Belt Grading

Our first colour belt grading of 2025 is fast approaching, and students have been working hard in preparation. For those attending, here are the details:

  • When: Sunday, 9th February
  • Where: Cranbrook Education Campus, Tillhouse Road, Cranbrook, EX5 7EE
  • Time: 9:30 AM

Senior Grade Training

The next senior grade session will be held on Monday, 24th February (7:00 - 8:00 PM). Open to all black stripes and black belts, this session will provide focused training in place of the usual fitness/sparring session.

English Championships (Sunday, 23rd March)

Mark your calendars! The English Championships, our first national event of the year, will be a fantastic opportunity to gain competition experience—especially for those considering the World Championships later this year. Keep an eye out for the event pack and entry forms.

Black Belt Grading Preparations

Preparations for the upcoming Black Belt Grading in April are underway. Well done to those who attended our in-club pre-grading earlier this month—it was a great opportunity to receive valuable feedback to enhance your training. Make sure you have the following dates in your diaries:

  • Sunday, 30th March – Pre-Grading
  • Saturday, 5th April – First Training Session
  • Sunday, 13th April – Second Training Session
  • Friday, 25th - Sunday, 27th April – Black Belt Grading Weekend

Reminder: All black belts must attend at least one of the above training sessions to secure their stamp, regardless of whether they are due to grade.

With such a fantastic start to the year, we can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store for us. Whether you’re training, competing, or supporting from the sidelines, your dedication makes our club what it is. Keep up the hard work, and let’s make this year one to remember!
